Our election campaign is about making Britain a fairer place - and there are just 10 days left to do it. Our momentum is growing and the media are interested in what a strong group of Liberal Democrats in Parliament will mean for British politics. But if we are to turn this momentum into votes it is vital that we keep campaigning on the things that affect people’s lives. That’s why we’ve spent today talking about the NHS. To me the NHS is a source of pride because it’s built on the basic British principle of fairness. But it’s easy for politicians to talk about how they’re committed to the NHS. We hear that constantly from the two old parties. But the real question is - how do you protect and improve the NHS at a time like this? We would change the way power flows in the NHS. Doctors and nurses should be telling us how to run it, not the other way around. We’d give frontline staff more power and responsibility. And we’d give patients more power too, giving the public real control over services through elected local health boards. That’s the difference the Liberal Democrats will make. We will trust the people who work in our public services. We will give people real power over the services they use. That’s what we will keep talking about.
